Pleasantville history: the Community Scholarship Fund
After World War II, returning servicemen in the club started the Community Scholarship Fund. The annual Pancake Breakfast still supports it today.
After World War II, returning servicemen started the Community Scholarship Fund to help support Pleasantville’s graduating seniors. The Fund eventually became independent of the Rotary Club of Pleasantville and carried on its mission through numerous fundraising events of its own.
As the historical photo shows, the club was originally made up entirely of men. Women were welcomed as members beginning in 1980.
Time marches on, and while many things have changed, one tradition continues: the annual Rotary Pancake Breakfast still helps support Pleasantville’s graduating seniors.
